Meet our team

We’re a small team with big ambition.

Ronay Island is a breath-taking, windswept, and rugged place, so it takes an equally unique team to take on this project. Our small team is made up of passionate and determined individuals who want to see nature thrive.

Alongside our in-house team of nature-lovers and land managers, we work with an extraordinary network of experts, both locally and across the UK. Our steering committee is made up of local representatives who meet regularly with us to help make decisions on the management of Ronay Island.

We’re also part of Carlowrie Group, a collective of businesses and charities across the UK with a shared mission: to make a positive impact.

Who we are

  • Tim

    CO-CHAIR

Tim is in his element when swimming in the lochs, paddleboarding and exploring the rugged hills of the island. A keen sailor and nature-enthusiast, Tim is interested in how policy, business and technology can be combined with local culture to preserve and enhance biodiversity for generations to come.

    Andrew

    CO-CHAIR

Andrew is a Scottish entrepreneur and the founder of Carlowrie Group, a diverse collective of businesses and charities in the UK which work together to create a positive impact.

Andrew currently lives with his partner and two sons in Oslo, Norway, but retains his strong Scottish links. Taking inspiration from Norway’s nature regeneration efforts Andrew is keen to boost the biodiversity on Ronay Island and future proof it for the next generations.

    Caitlin

Hailing from New Zealand, where her childhood was spent exploring the lush Kahurangi National Park and the Abel Tasman National Park, Caitlin has a deep connection to being in nature.

You’ll find Caitlin meeting with stakeholders and communities, sharing ideas and the vision for this unique area of Scotland, and documenting the progress of Ronay Island’s environmental regeneration.

Tom grew up in the west Suffolk countryside, and has since travelled the breadth of the UK helping land owners to focus on nature within the farmed landscape.

  • Mandy

    HEAD OF PRODUCT MARKETING

Originally from Melbourne, Mandy combines her experience in brand storytelling and digital strategy with a passion for design and commitment to sustainability.

    Cara

Cara moved home to North Uist with her husband Nye after living in London and a short stint in France. She has since taken on the position of Brand Manager at North Uist Distillery. David brings a deep knowledge of the area which is a fantastic support for our work on Ronay.

  • Nick

After a thirty year career fishing commercially from Kallin Harbour on Grimsay, Nick packed up his creels and launched Lady Anne Wildlife Cruises. For the past ten years to fifteen years (recollections vary) Nick has been sharing his unrivalled knowledge of these waters and his passion for local history, music, and language with passengers aboard the Lady Anne.

  • Eagle catching a fish from water with wings spread wide.

    Nye

Nye joined the team at Lady Anne Wildlife Cruises in 2021 after moving to North Uist with his wife Cara. He quickly set about learning the history, geology, and biology of the seas around the area. His tours regularly navigate around Ronay Island where he shows guests the resident white tailed eagles, otters, and other wildlife.

  • Violet

Violet grew up in North Uist and has recently returned to the island after completing a BSc in Animal Behaviour and Conservation at Manchester Metropolitan University. Modules in her studies included biodiversity monitoring, ecology, coastal ecology, and ecosystem services and conservation science in practice. Her keen interest in this field and her local knowledge is very beneficial to the Ronay Island project.

“Ronay Island has a long history of people and nature working together. As owners and managers of this land today, we’re proud to continue this tradition.”
